Cairo house fire victims identifiedUPDATE - 11/18/09 - An Illinois State Police news release has confirmed the names and cause of death of two bodies found in a Cairo house fire. The victims have been positively identified as Beatrice Barber, age 29, of Cairo, and Eva Hill, age 27, of Charleston, Missouri. Both victims died as a result of gunshot wounds. UPDATE - 11/17/2009 - 5:43 P.M. - Autopsies have been performed on both bodies today. Illinois State Police say one body is burned so badly that it is unidentifiable. The other body has been identified, but authorities are not releasing the identity. While investigators do consider the fire to be suspicious, as of right now, they have no solid leads. They are turning to the public for help. Anyone with information should contact Illinois State Police at 618-845-3740. Meanwhile, police are currently guarding the home to make sure no one tampers with evidence while the investigation is ongoing. While it is not yet classified as a homicide investigation, police did confirm neither woman died from natural causes. UPDATE - 10:21 P.M. - Illinois State Police have confirmed the bodies of two women were found inside the house following the suspicious fire. Investigators are saying the fire was intentionally set. As of right now, police are not releasing the identities of the women, but the investigation is ongoing. UPDATE - 4:30 P.M. - An Illinois State Police news release has confirmed that there have been multiple deaths as a result of the fire.
CAIRO, ILL - Firefighters are on the scene of a house fire on 37th street in Cairo. The fire chief, state police and the coroner are on the scene. Preliminary reports say there are multiple deaths, though they're not releasing information on the victims at this time. We have a reporter on the way to the scene.
