Shop owners say burglars were 'Christmas shopping'

Lauren Adams

PADUCAH, KY-  "The top shelf was full of necklaces, the second shelf was full of bracelets," Sandy Mason said, pointing to a now empty glass case.

After a Saturday morning break-in at Tiffany's On Broadway the owner says there was just one necklace left.

"Over the weekend they got us for close to five thousand dollars," she estimated of the stolen goods.

The thieves first tried a crowbar and then threw a brick through the shop's front window--to clean out the store- taking accessories, purses, and t-shirts.

Mason says the criminals seem to have taken their time- only a certain size shoe was taken and several sunglasses were selected from dozens of pairs.

Around the corner at Bellissimo's Salon owner Christy Garrison noticed the same thing- the thieves appeared to be doing Christmas shopping.

"They did take holiday items and gift bags. I guess so they could re-gift the items they stole, for the holidays," she said.

Missing from her salon was close to two thousand dollars worth of supplies, "curling irons, flat irons and blow dryers."

Garrison says without those tools she is losing even more money.  In the past several days she has had to cancel most appointments.

While Sandy Mason hasn't had to close her shop, she admits she has thought about, "You work 60 hours a week, two jobs for what? To give it to somebody?"

This is the second time Tiffany's has been burglarized.  Mason says not only is she installing a security system she is also considering moving to a different location.  Bellissimo's Salon owner Christy Garrison also said she had plans to install a security system as well.

Detective Matt Smith with The Paducah Police Department said investigators believe the burglaries were committed by the same persons.  Smith said Tuesday he is reviewing surveillance video and evidence.
