Judge weighs visitation in boy-behind-wall case
BENTON, Ill. (AP) - A southern Illinois judge is weighing
whether a woman accused of hiding her 6-year-old son in a crawl space for nearly two years whenever visitors arrived should have visitation rights. Franklin County Circuit Judge Kyle Vantrease heard two hours of testimony Tuesday in Benton in trying to determine if 30-year-old Shannon Wilfong should have access to 6-year-old Richard Chekevdia. The boy and his mother vanished in November 2007. They were found in September hiding in a small space behind a wall in his grandmother's home near Royalton. The boy is in state custody while he gets counseling meant to eventually reunite him with his father. Wilfong is to appear in court Thursday on a felony abduction charge. The grandmother, 51-year-old Diane Dobbs, is charged with aiding and abetting. |

there is "always" 2 sides to every story!! why did she feel the need to hide the child from the father in the 1st place? i've known some slick fathers in my life that could make the public believe anything he said!! i think this should be investigated and find out just why she was hiding the child but herself!!

This lady had a choice and she chose to violate the law. Shame on her for putting her child in that situation. Any "good" mother would know that help was available and be willing to ask for it if needed. I say no visitation should be allowed.

Maybe this mother knows something about dear old dad that we don't? And I agree, the law should be the same for everyone..BUT, all the facts need to be looked at not just a few.

IT ALL DEPENDES ON WHY THE MOTHER WAS HIDING HER SON WHATS THE WHOLE STORY OTHER THEN THE MOTHER WAS HIDING HER SON SO THE REST OF THE STORY NEED TO COME OUT TO THE PUBLIC NOW WE HERE THAT THE MOTHER AND GRANDMOTHER IS BEING CHARGED BUT THE BIGGGGGG QUESTION IS WHATS THE WHOLE STORY OF WHY THE MOTHER WAS HIDING THE LITTLE BOY

This woman did what any mother would do to protect her child. I don't think what she did was right but I would do ANYTHING for my children...any GOOD mother would

I believe that the cicumstances that led the mother to taking the child away to begin with should be a factor in this case and before the comment made by R U Kiddin Me wrote we should know the facts in that matter. Not that it justifies her actions she should have taking different measures if she thought she had just cause.

Neither mother nor grandmother should have access to the child. Both have commited a terrible crime against this child.
