BENTON, Ill. -- Not guilty is a mother's plea to charges she abducted her 5-year-old son and hid him in the crawl space of her mothers home for nearly two years.
For the second time this week Shannon Wilfong appeared before a judge. On Tuesday she was in civil court trying to gain visitation rights of her son. Today she plead not guilty to child abduction charges before a judge in Franklin County.
Wilfong is accused of kidnapping her son Richard Chekevdia. She admits hiding him in the crawl space of her mother's home in Royalton, Ill., but only to conceal him from visitors. Wilfong says she hid her son to protect him from his father. She claims he molested Richard, but a state investigation found no evidence of wrong doing.
Wilfong's mother Diane Dobbs plead not guilty to aiding and abetting in a child abduction. Dobbs' boyfriend Robert Sanderfur plead not guilty to the same charge.
The pretrial date for Wilfong, Dobbs and Sanderfur is Feb. 18.

If the mother had no mental issues, and she believes the boy was safer with her, how is it kidnapping, its her own child...Now if the state took the child out of the home for a legitimate reason then i see fit the child live with the father...And Kids should get to choose who they live with not a court system..unless there's violence or abuse!

No, I did not say that. I said I do not see how the courts can classify a parent is kidnapping there own child both parents have rights. The norm in most cases is the mother gets the child and the father is to support that child.I feel if you have a child in or out of a relationship you must both be equally responsible for that child unless one is mentally unstable. The laws should read both parents are equals and both should have to put money in a account just for the child.

So Homer you think that one parent should decide if the other parent ever gets to see their own child? You think one parent should decide if the child gets to go to school or not? You think one parent should decide whether or not a child should receive healthcare?

Here is food for thought! How can a parent kidnap there own blood related child? The courts has done this for years but each parent has rights! Wake up America.
