You didn't feel it because human perception is part of the scale. Humans don't start sensing earthquakes until about 3.0. You don't get structural damage until about 5.0. Anything above 6.0 means trouble. Anything over 7.0 means we're all outta here. --Professor Pooky

Even an 18 wheeler will register on a seismic monitor. It's just tectonic plates releasing a little pressure, instead of building up until we have a big one.

It's just tectonic plates releasing a little pressure at a time.If they didn't,it would build up until we had a REALLY BIG ONE. Even trucks can be measured on the Richter scale as they pass one by.

Homer, I apologize for misunderstanding what you wrote. It is hard to interpret a written note sometimes if you don't know the person especially.

Watching all your comments, I thought I would speak up. My husband and I have been through an earthquake of 5.5 magnitude, devastating tornadoes, have weathered the ice storm and many financially distressed times and, yes, we have a full pantry, gallons of water stored back and a generator on an RV that we can use, with well water here on a farm. Also, we are Christians that trust in our Lord. Use your mind that God gave you, prepare. We aren't survivalists, just people using common sense.

@1:37 AM Anonymous you misread what I was saying I said we need to be watching the Pres. on him doing this.To the other yah hoo that says do not stock pile and put more faith in the Father well the Father is telling me to do these things to survive and to continue to do good for him and be a warrior then he we will deliver me from the beast.

LOL. We won't ever be forced to accept Islam or die,,, we will be made to accept something far, far worse. Abject worship of the Almighty, All-Powerful, State. We will be completely ruled over by something that actually is nothing more than a figment of the mass imagination, a complete fiction bottom to top, a creature of Law, a Beast that has no Power at all beyond the willingness of people to believe in it.

Oh my goodness lets stockpile lets buy our guns and our ammo lets do this lets do that.. Well guess what guys when God says it done IT IS DONE and no amount of guns or ammo or whatever else you want to stockpile is gonna save ya!! You people need to have more faith in our father and less in the material things your talking about stockpiling!!!

What idiot could say Mr Obama should welcome terrorist with open arms? Are you willing to give up your freedom to worship or not worship. If they take over this country you may be required to convert to Islam or die. We don't need to welcome any hate groups but certainly not terrorist. If you had lost a love one in 911 attacks you would think differently.

Vince- Yes the smaller quakes that are happening near the main fault could just as likely be building greater pressure as they could be relieving it. If anyone is confused about how powerful that fault is and the damage its capable of causing, they can read the report from the last one (river changed course/ran backwards, sand geysers, etc etc) or they can take a drive down to the Reelfoot area and look at how all that land just "dropped"..

Homer, I have plenty of ammo and agree with what you are saying, but when you say stockpile gasoline, are you talking about me and you stockpiling or the government? It would be hard for me and you to store enough fuel and keep it fresh. That's alot of Sta-bil!!! LOL

could this trigger a stronger quake that we have been due to have for years?
32781292Homer said on Saturday, Nov 28 at 12:57 PM
To Ziegler that is why you should be prepared all times besides if you have a gen you can run your well, and your electricity. This why we need to be interested in our new president getting on the good sides of the terrorist and welcoming them with open arms. This is another reason the right to hold on to your weapons the right to selfdefense.Oh yeah I know we will run out of gas that is why you stock pile it as well that is for the rebuttal on the gen that is coming.
32776491Ziegler said on Saturday, Nov 28 at 11:44 AM
You need to be more worried about a "fire sale". That is when terrorists shut down our entire infrastructure; electric, gas, water...everything.

D this I know but for some this is a good scare for those that are not computer savy and are not wise to the local media intentions to scare the heck out of everybody.Just because your home is dismanteled and a few gas lines run through the city means nothing. If you are a survivor you will come out on top and most of the time not on a community basis being we have seen who is the most important people in the community with the last storm we still have not recovered.

Argh, the comments system sanitized my plus signs from the database instead of simply converting them and storing them as HTML entities. That should've read "liquefaction plus foundations." Anyhow, my point was that this whole area needs to prepare on a community-wide basis, not an individual basis, as is the case for another potential storm. Only together will we make it through. By the way, we have more quakes than are ever publicized. They're too small to be felt. http://earthquake.usgs.gov/
32767214D said on Saturday, Nov 28 at 7:11 AM
Magnitude 2.5 is nothing. The more smaller quakes we have, the better; it means the fault can relieve its stress without creating a magnitude 8 quake. Even so, we're not expecting another "big one" for another century or so. That said, when it happens, no amount of preparation will help. Not much good having a generator when the house is all but destroyed (liquefaction foundations), and the city is on fire - several major natural gas lines run through the area. No sense worrying now though.

I hope we don't have another crisis like the ice storm or anything. Because it was very scary going to Paris and coming back to Murray and it didn't even look like Murray because it was so dark.

Well that is so good Anonymous...you are so blessed you felt the earthquake.

That is funny Ziegler, because I have personally felt two of them.
32747541Homer said on Friday, Nov 27 at 2:33 PM
We need to be getting ready for the big one get your generators, water, gas and nonperishable food items remember the icestorm of 2009 and how long it took our great city to recover.Earthquake 2010 is abound to happen with all these little ones.
32747194Ziegler said on Friday, Nov 27 at 1:59 PM
Funny...I have lived here forever and have never felt one quake.
