Farewell ceremony planned for local National Guard unit

By WPSD Staff

PADUCAH, KY - A farewell ceremony is planned in our region for a National Guard unit getting ready for deployment.

Friends and family will gather to honor the Kentucky Army National Guard's 2113th Transportation Company on December 6, at 9am at Tilghman High School Auditorium.  The company is shipping out in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.  This will be the second deployment to Iraq for the unit.  They first deployed in December of 2004.

The 2113th will travel to Camp Shelby, Mississippi for several weeks to train before deploying to Iraq.  The company will be providing convoy security while overseas.

Mufaso, my brother is going to Iraq to fight for the right for you to run your lips. I hope I meet you on the streets.

I do not understand people saying such idiotic things just as men and women are preparing to leave their families. They are all doing what is honorable and respectable; even if you do not believe in the reasons we are over there, then believe in the people who are going!

As the mother of a soldier of the 2113th, let me say this to you, Mufaso: If you can't stand behind our soldiers, you are welcome to stand in front of them!

Mufaso..I am the PROUD wife of an active Guard Reserve soldier,I see first hand the sacrifices that he makes on a daily basis all so you can have the freedom to talk "smack". You evidently do not know anything about Code, Honor and Country. My husband made an oath to defend his country and I don't like people like you that do not respect that! I also know if my husband dies in service will not have had his life stolen..he would have gave it for YOUR freedom to speech, safety and security.

A true warrior would sooner die than refuse an order, Mufaso. That is the level of commitment with which we serve. I don't expect you to understand that based on the left leaning orientation of your post, but I can't let you belittle the "sacrifices" of my fellow warriors, either just because you are ignorant. This is not Obama's war. It is not Bush's war. It is a Global War on Terror. I choose to defend freedom, my friend. Please exercise your freedom to leave my beloved country.

I am thankful everyday that the life my family has. Ive been to the sandbox and lemme tell ya, life aint fair there. So think about that. If you dont like it, take off to another country and stay. We wont miss ya :)

I guess everyone is entitled to thier opinion, Mufaso, but as a retired member of the National Guard you should concentrate you attention to supporting the troops that are involved. Each soldier is very aware of the risks they take. If you don't beleive in your country you may glady leave at any time.

I would encourage all National Guard troops to refuse to go and tell Obama where he can stick his war. Folks, if you want the war to stop, you need to put civil disobedience into practice. There is no such thing as "sacrifice." No soldier ever sacrifices his life; his life is stolen from him. May I remind all you God-Country-and-Apple-Pie people that more soldiers are killed by suicide and friendly fire than are killed from the enemy. Think about that next time you sing God Bless America.
