Southern Illinois living center receives education grant

Web Editor - Ethan Fife

WASHINGTON, DC - An independent living center is getting a deserved boost.

Congressman Jerry Costello announced today that the Carbondale's Southern Illinois Center for Independent Living has been awarded a grant for $181,921.  The grant is part of the Center for Independence Living Recovery Act Program enacted by the U.S. Department of Education.  The grant will be used to expand services to people with disabilities so that they can live for independent lives.

Costello says, "The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act is providing opportunities to reach more people that need assistance and improve outcomes.  At the same time, we are maintaining important services and preserving and creating jobs.  It is a win-win situation for our communities."
