MURRAY, KY - The Murray-Calloway County Hospital has been trying to get a team over to Haiti for a while and last night an Orthopedic Surgeon in Galletin, Tennessee called and asked for a surgical tech and nurse to go with him to Haiti. In a matter of hours Murray-Calloway County Hospital gathered a team.
Cindy Ivey, the surgical tech, and Ernest Ayo, a certified registered nurse anesthetist along with the orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Gautsch make up the surgical team.
Murray-Calloway County Hospital donated medical supplies, including pharmaceuticals, gowns, masks, gloves, surgical needles, and much more. They will administer medications and perform surgeries as needed out of a hospital in Jacmel, Haiti 50 miles south of Port-au-Prince.
The team is flying out of Nashville tonight at 5. They will arrive in Ft. Lauderdale and tomorrow morning they will arrive in Jacmel, Haiti where they will stay for a week.

Dear Robert8:33AM We do help people without insurance. Both Cindy and I volunteer at "Surgery on Sunday" in Lexington, KY. This organization only takes referals for working poor who can't afford insurance. Soon SOS may be a National movement. Your local hospitals also provide for many

I must be missing something - what does not having insurance have to do with what these people have been through. I feel for people with no insurance and can't afford it but the people in Haiti have lost loved ones and are dealing with catastrophe - I wish I could go to Haiti and help someway - HATS OFF to the 3 giving a week of their time to help out. May God Bless and watch over them!!!!!

i don't believe that not being able to afford health insurance is quite the same as living through an earthquake, being buried in rubble for 2 weeks, or having your entire family killed during this catastrophe.

IT IS VERY SAD THAT AMERICANS CAN'T GET HELP WHEN WE NEED IT. SOME PEOPLE WORK, BUT DON'T HAVE INSURANCE BECAUSE THEY CAN'T AFFORD THE PREMIUMS.

How sad that these same people can't help the people here that need medical care and can not afford it. Help belongs at home first.

Very cool! I am very proud of them and will keep them in my prayers because I am sure they will be working hard under very difficult circumstances.
