MAYFIELD, KY - Members of the Baltimore Missionary Baptist Church located in Hickman County, Kentucky clung to every word Pastor Jess Alford said on Sunday.
The congregation is like most, tight knit friends and families. However, on Sunday they didn't have pews, hymnals, or a big fancy organ. The church they called home burned to the ground Friday morning.
"The building is just a building. There are emotional attachments to it but the true church is in that heart of those who believe," Brother Jess said.
One of those believers is Wanda Wilson. She's been the musical director for 30 years.
"I could see the sound board was all that was left was wires for the keys," Wilson cried.
But Sunday, Wilson's music continued as the church held a service inside of a home.
"Regardless of what happened we are still gonna worship the Lord," Brother Jess said.
At times tears and crying were louder than the singing. Everyone looking for the strength to move on from what they call a trying time.
"Our biggest help comes from the Lord and He does comfort in a time like this," Brother Jess said.
"I'm confident that we'll go on some way or another," Wilson added.
