MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY - A local man faces trafficking charges.

Earlier this evening, at around 6:15 pm, The McCracken County Sheriff's Drug Division arrested Rickie L. Lewis and charged him with trafficking in a 3rd degree controlled substance.

Events began with Sheriff's Detectives conducting a traffic stop on a pickup truck at the 4100 block of Clarks River Road. During a check, it was found that Lewis was driving on a suspended license. Detectives searched Lewis and found 30 doses of Tramadol in an unlabeled pill bottle.

During an interview with Lewis, the suspect admitted he was on the way to sell the medication when he was stopped by police. He also admitted he has sold the pills on multiple other occasions and he didn't have a prescription for it.

The trafficking charge was enhanced due to a second or subsequent offense.

Lewis was taken to and lodged at the McCracken County Jail.

When you have no insurance, Self medication becomes a reality!! Recreational drug use has no place in my world! however i have a medical history & am aware of what the Dr' will perscribe. Cost effectiveness is a real part of our economy today!!

More than likely these are kids reaching for a party drug, & Really do need a good Butt Whoopin!! However I do know people who are simply having to perchase medication , normally perscribed TO THEM PERSONALLY, by Physicans, on the street level, simply because it's less expense than Drs.bills & drug stores.WE HAVE NO INSURANCE !!!!!!

@Wow and Anonymous Well, doesn't change the fact that it's a controlled substance, does it now? I guess if he didn't want to get arrested he should have been selling Motrin or Tylenol instead. Law enforcement is just doing their job, arresting him for what they observed, based upon exsisting law and precedent. You see, it is law enforcment's job to ENFORCE the law AS IT IS WRITTEN, they don't decide whether the law is right or not, that's what the judiciary does... Law Enforcement doesn't decide his sentence either, that's the judiciary. If you people have a problem with the law or the sentencing, then complain about the court system, not the deputies, they're just trying to put food on the table for themselves and their families.

Two words “drug trafficker” seems to prompt two other words to be uttered by far western Kentucky judges…..”shock probation.” Wasn’t the original intent of shock probation to “shock” the emotions of otherwise good people who made a mistake but are not likely to reoffend if given a chance after being convicted on a “no harm to others” crime? Errrrr……how does shock probating career criminals (drug traffickers) play into that scenario? And, in fact, what in the name of Dealer Dan would ever motivate a judge to “shock” unremorseful “slingers –of- dope- to -kids” over and over again? No wonder Kentucky is seen as a haven for drug dealers.

Prescription pain pills are the most readily available drug on the black market. Eastern KY currently is home to the heaviest trafficking in the nation of pain meds. Bust a local dealer- it doesn't really matter. Where there is demand someone will supply, and the more focus put on stopping dealers and not treating those addicted the worse the problem becomes.
