UPDATE - 3:58 PM - 3/10/2010 - Marshall County Deputy Coroner Barry Taylor tells Local 6 that an initial autopsy reveals no evidence of trauma in Courtney Koehler's death. Pending microscopic studies, it appears to be a natural death.
UPDATE - 9:29 PM - The Marshall County Coroner's Office has confirmed 15-year-old Courtney Koehler was at volleyball practice in Calvert City when she collapsed. She was transported to Marshall County E/R by ambulance where she was pronounced dead at 5:12 PM.
There is currently no cause of death pending an autopsy.
MARSHALL COUNTY, KY - A Marshall County teen died while playing volleyball this afternoon.
Marshall County Superintendent Trent Lovett confirms to Local 6 that a female 15-year-old collapsed while playing a club volleyball game at Pathway Baptist Church in Calvert City. While the girl's name is not being released, we do know that she was a sophomore and a member of the school volleyball team.
Lovett says several people at the church did their best to revive her after she collapsed, but they were unsuccessful.
Lovett also wanted to stress to the girl's family that the thoughts and prayers of the entire Marshall County School system are with them.
