SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - Gov. Pat Quinn is urging lawmakers to
raise income taxes to avoid deep cuts in spending on schools and
colleges.
Quinn proposed an increase of one percentage point during a
brief budget speech to the General Assembly on Wednesday.
The Democratic governor did not say how much money the increase
would raise or what he means by a tax "surcharge."
But he says the increase would be enough to avoid the $1.3
billion in education cuts that his budget calls for.

Really...how about the "Special Funds" that have been depleted due to the Governor borrowing from them. Raising taxes is not going to do anything. The Governor will just spend it too. What about the Lottery money that is to support education. What a joke our government is.
