Area man dead after morning crash

MURPHYSBORO, Ill. — A two-vehicle crash left an area man dead Tuesday morning.

Witnesses said Donald Leggans, 72, of Murphysboro, turned left in front of a truck driven by Daniel Batz, 30, of Forrissant, Missouri.  Batz struck Leggans, whose car was heavily damaged in the wreck.

Leggans was pronounced dead at Carbondale Memorial Hospital around an hour after the crash. Batz refused treatment at the scene.

Illinois State Police cited Batz  for log book violations.  The crash is still under investigation.
