Asphalt rehab projects awarded for counties across the state

FRANKFORT, Ky. - Asphalt rehab projects can cost a county thousands of dollars.  Thankfully, the State of Kentucky says they'll help with the burden.

"Maintaining our roadways is one of the most important responsibilities of the Transportation Cabinet," Kentucky Transportation Secretary Mike Hancock said. "Well-maintained roads are safer for motorists. They're also important for economic development and community growth."

Wednesday, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet awarded 45 counties hundreds of thousands of dollars for those projects.  Seven counties in the Local 6 viewing area received money.

They are as follows:

Ballard County - A 3.3-mile section of KY 121 (Mayfield Road) from Shelton Creek Bridge to U.S. 51. Jim Smith Contracting Company LLC was awarded the contract for $418,919. Completion date: Nov. 15, 2013.

Caldwell County - A 1-mile section of U.S. 62/West Main Street - West Market Street from Centennial Drive to KY 293. Rogers Group Inc. was awarded the contract for $479,397. Completion date: Nov. 15, 2013.

Crittenden County - A 1-mile section of U.S. 60 (Salem-Marion Road) from the Livingston County line to 280 feet west of Davenport Mines Road. Rogers Group Inc. was awarded the contract for $106,450. Completion date: Nov. 15, 2013.

Fulton County - Two sections of roadway including a 0.79-mile section of U.S. 45 (Highland Drive) from the Tennessee state line to KY 1648 and a 0.9-mile section of KY 125 (Union City Highway) from KY 1099 to KY 94. Murray Paving Inc. was awarded the contract for $262,642. Completion date: Nov. 15, 2013.

Graves County - A 0.9-mile section of Mayfield-Paducah Road (northbound and southbound) from West Walnut Street to East James Street (omitting mile point 17.152 to 17.219). Jim Smith Company LLC was awarded the contract for $382,704. Completion date: Nov. 15, 2013.

Hickman County - Two sections of roadway including a 2.2-mile section of KY 123 (Clay Street) from KY 58 to KY 239 and a 0.36-mile section of KY 1826 (Depot Street) from Blair Street to U.S. 51. Murray Paving Inc. was awarded the contract for $327,416. Completion date: Nov. 15, 2013.

McCracken County - A half-mile section of KY 731/32nd Street from U.S. 45 to Buckner Lane. Jim Smith Contracting LLC was awarded the project for $202,025. Completion date: Nov. 15, 2013.

More asphalt rehab projects will be awarded later this year.
