Body found in river overnight in Paducah

PADUCAH, Ky. - The Paducah Police Department is investigating how a body ended up in the river overnight.

According to Paducah police, workers on a tow boat owned by the Ingram Barge Company spotted the body in the river off Owens Island around 1:30 this morning. They pulled the body out of the water and called police.

McCracken County Sheriff Jon Hayden tells Local 6 the body is that of a white female wearing blue jeans and Nike sneakers, but no identity or age can be provided due to the body's condition.

The sheriff's office adds that the body has been taken to Madisonville for an autopsy. The results are pending.

McCracken County Deputy Coroner Ben Bradford and detectives with the sheriff's department have been reviewing missing persons reports and hope to have a positive ID by later this afternoon.
