Car catches fire on I-24 East, closes lane for 2 hours

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, Ky. - The McCracken County Sheriff’s Office and Reidland-Farly Fire Department responded to a commercial vehicle on fire on I-24 at mile marker 11. The fire led to traffic restrictions overnight.

The vehicle was driven by 49-year-old Jerry J. Hayes of Florissant, Missouri, when a tire caught fire due to a mechanical failure. Hayes pulled into the emergency lane and the fire was eventually put out.

One lane was shut down for about two hours for cleanup. There were no injuries and the vehicle was not transporting hazardous material.
