Carbondale man charged with domestic battery, aggravated assault

CARBONDALE, Ill. - A Carbondale man is behind bars today on charges of domestic battery, aggravated assault, and resisting a police officer.

 

On Sunday, Feb. 5 at 11:18 p.m., Carbondale Police Officers responded to the 500 block of East Birch St. in reference to a report of an unlawful use of a weapons and a domestic battery.  Upon arriving, officers learned Byron Thomas had allegedly battered a female and threatened her with a handgun.  

The female was able to flee the residence and report the incident.  The occupants of the residence refused to communicate with the responding officers and a search warrant was obtained.

The Carbondale Police Department’s Hostage Negotiation Team attempted to communicate with the occupants, but were also unsuccessful.  

At 3:15 a.m. Monday, a combined Carbondale Police Department and Southern Illinois University Department of Public Safety Special Response Team arrested Thomas when he came to the door.  

Thomas was charged with Aggravated Domestic Battery, Aggravated Assault, and Resisting a Peace Officer.  Thomas was incarcerated at the Jackson County Jail.
