Sunken boat, fuel contained in Mississippi River near Iowa
DES MOINES, Iowa - In a release from Marquette Transportation, the vessel, Stephen L. Colby was determined to have struck a submerged objected while on the Mississippi River.
The Stephen L. Colby was partially sunk, but all members escaped safely with the vessel losing minimal fuel.
The fuel leaked into the river was contained by booms deployed by emergency responders.
Marquette is working safely with the US Coast Guard, US Army Corp of Engineers and local authorities to ensure salvage operations are handled in a safe and secure manner.
