MARION, Ill. - At 10 p.m. Friday night, construction crews will shut down Illinois Route 13 underneath Interstate 57 in Williamson County. No traffic will be allowed to pass through.

Contractors will remove the northbound Interstate 57 bridge that crosses over Route 13.

The work is all part of the expansion of the roadway to six lanes between Carterville and Marion.

The intersection will be closed until 6 a.m. on Monday.

Drivers can use Illinois Route 37, West Main Street, and Halfway Road as a detour.

Northbound Interstate 57 has also been reduced to one lane. IDOT officials said it will stay that way for more than a year as work continues.
