FRANKFORT, Ky. - Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway met with the Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of Energy to discuss the future of the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant.

Conway asked Deputy Secretary Daniel Poneman to increase funding for cleanup at the site over the next several budget cycles.

Currently, $142 million per year is allocated to clean up the site. Poneman says an additional $35 million will be requested in the 2014 budget, bringing total funding to $177 million.

USEC announced 1,100 layoffs in late May after the DOE declined to renew its contract with the company to continue operations at the plant.
