SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - Democratic party officials in Illinois plan to hold a meeting later this month to talk about slating statewide candidates for 2014.

The party's state central committee will meet Sept. 22 in Springfield. The committee has 38 members and each member has a weighted vote in choosing candidates to endorse.

House Speaker Michael Madigan serves as the state party's chairman. In a statement Thursday, he says the meeting is a chance to give candidates a chance to convey the strengths they bring to the ticket.

Statewide office holders including Secretary of State Jesse White, who's seeking a fifth term, plan to attend the meeting.
