Drought raising concerns about water supplies

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - The combination of extreme heat and drought is raising anxiety levels about water supplies in Kentucky as demand grows to keep lawns green and gardens producing.
   
The state says no water systems are experiencing water supply shortages.
   
Some communities are asking residents to voluntarily conserve water. Bill Caldwell with the state Division of Water says if the drought persists, some places may start limiting water use.
   
Caldwell says it's highly unusual for a drought to start so early in a year. The worst of the dry spell is in western Kentucky, where rainfall has been scarce since March and April.
   
The forecast for the next two weeks calls for above-normal temperatures and below-normal rainfall.
   
Forecasters are predicting another round of blistering heat on Friday after highs reached triple digits Thursday.
