FEMA and Lowes team up for outreachPADUCAH - For those affected by the recent storms and flooding who are looking to recover from damages, or people interested in ways to prepare property in the event of flooding in the future, help is at hand. Recovery specialists from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will continue their outreach efforts to those affected by the recent severe storms, tornadoes and flooding in Kentucky. Beginning June 8, Community Education and Outreach teams from FEMA will be offering advice to Paducah area homeowners, renters and business owners on clean-up and rebuilding procedures following the recent flooding. The outreach teams will suggest mitigation measures to reduce or eliminate the long term risk to human life and property from hazards such as flooding and high winds. FEMA mitigation outreach specialists will explain how best to clean up mold, mildew and bacteria, a common problem after flooding. They also will be offering tips on how to protect structures from future flooding, including information about relocating electrical panels, washers, dryers, and heating and cooling equipment to avoid water damage. Outreach teams will be available for a week beginning June 8 at the Hinkleville Road Lowe’s Home Improvement Center from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Saturday. By taking precautions after flooding, residents can safely reoccupy buildings. Spending a few dollars today on mitigation measures can save lives and prevent damages in the thousands of dollars in the future. |
