CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. — Elizabeth Gill was a blonde toddler when she disappeared from the front of her family's Cape Girardeau home in 1965.

In the decades since then, her family has never stopped looking for her, the girl they called Beth.
Her family recently hired a private detective from Florida, who was in Cape Girardeau this week to search for clues.
The family and Cape Girardeau police detective Jim Smith believe the girl was taken by gypsy travelers, who were staying at a nearby hotel when the girl disappeared.
The Southeast Missourian reports ( ) family members saw the group twice try to convince Beth to come to their car.
Smith reopened the case in 2003 and says he's happy to have help from the private detective.
