Fatality crash reported in Jefferson County, Illinois

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ill. - One person died after a serious vehicle crash in southern Illinois Thursday.

It happened on I-64 eastbound in Jefferson County, around the 71.5 mile marker.

Illinois State Police say a tractor-trailer pulling a box trailer slowed because of construction.  The van behind it, didn't and it collided with trailer.

The van's driver died.  An ambulance transported a passenger in the van to Crossroads Community Hospital in Mt. Vernon, Illinois.  The passenger was later flown to St. Louis University Hospital.

Neither the driver or the passenger in the tractor-trailer were injured.

Traffic returned to normal around 4:45 p.m. Thursday.

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ill. - A deadly crash causes traffic issues in southern Illinois.

Illinois State Police say the wreck happened just after 1 p.m. at the 71.5 mile marker on I-64 in Jefferson County.

As a result, authorities on the scene diverted traffic of I-64 at the Woodlawn exit at mile marker 69.
