Former admin. assistant charged in drug task force probe
NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has made another arrest on theft charges stemming from an investigation of an area drug task force.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) has arrested 41-year-old Leona Simoneau Longworth, a former employee of the 24th Judicial District Drug Task Force after the Henry County Grand Jury handed down indictments against her last week as a result of the TBI investigation.
Longworth, of McKenzie, Tenn. was indicted on one count of theft and one count of knowingly giving a false statement to an auditor. She was the Drug Task Force’s Administrative Assistant at the time of the theft and was processed through the Henry County Jail on the charges last Thursday.
TBI began investigating allegations against the 24th Judicial District Drug Task Force at the request of the District Attorney General after the state comptroller’s office discovered missing funds during an audit. Steve Lee, the former director of the Drug Task Force, was arrested last week on related charges. The case is being handled by a special prosecutor.
Longworth posted a $10,000 bond and was released from the Henry County Jail.
