Ghost Haunting A Local Restaurant
Have you even been to Shandie's restaurant in Downtown Paducah and maybe your salt shaker was tipped over, the lights were flickering or you suddenly felt a cool breeze?
If you have, you might have had an encounter with Stella Cohen.
The only problem is she died in 1980.
It's rumored the ghost of Stella still saunters around the restaurant looking out of the upstairs windows.
The Cohen family used to own a dry goods store on the corner of 2nd and Broadway Street, the same building that is now Shandie's. The family lived on the second and third floors of the building.
Stella was the last member of the Cohen family left. Her husband was rumored to be murdered.
"I think Stella didn't leave because she liked the view so much," says Karla Lawrence, co-owner of Shandie's. The windows overlook Downtown Paducah and the river.
People reported chairs mysteriously moving in the restaturant, salt and pepper shakers knocked over, lights flickering, cold spots, strange movements in mirrors and brass, and also glasses falling from parts of the bar.
Stella means well though, "I think she is happy because we breathed some new life to the place," says Lawrence.
