Lanes open after Marion hazardous material spill

UPDATE:

10:42 A.M.

Per an update from the Illinois State Police, the left lane on Interstate 57 southbound remains closed due to cleanup of the material.

The cleanup is still causing traffic backup.

UPDATE:

All lanes of traffic are now open after a hazardous material semi truck spill.

The driver of the truck choked on an unknown object resulting in the semi truck crashed into the median.

Original Story:

MARION, Ill - A semi truck hauling hazardous materials has rolled over on Interstate 57 south at mile marker 61.

The hazardous material is described as "disinfectant, liquid, corrosive."

There has been an isolation distance of 150 feet established around the spill.

Traffic is being diverted off the interstate, and southbound traffic is exiting at Exit 65, IL Route 149, West Frankfort; North bound traffic is exiting at Exit 59, Johnston City.

Marion Fire Department HAZMAT Team is on scene.
