HERRIN, Ill. - After a close mayoral election in a southern Illinois town, officials conducted a re-canvass.

Election officials in Herrin tell Local 6, the vote totals stayed the same.

The incumbent, Mayor Victor Ritter, remained in the lead with 891 votes.  Steve Frattini followed with 888, and Monica Young received 371 votes.

Election officials say if a candidate wants a recount, they must make the request between May 1 and May 5.  Once the candidate makes the request, election officials have three days to file a written notice about the recount.  The recount shouldn't take more than a day to complete once the recount process begins.
