MARSHALL COUNTY, Ky. - High winds caused a porch fire to escalate in Marshall County, Kentucky on Friday afternoon.

It happened at approximately 4:45 p.m. on Dogwood Trail just off of Moors Camp Highway. A man went outside on his porch to smoke a cigarette, and put it out to go back not long after. East Marshall Fire Chief Bill Johnson said the wind picked up the cigarette and caught the porch wood on fire, and it then spread to the rafters.

The fire chief says the flames were roughly 100 feet high at one point. Only one person was inside and made it out safely. The house is considered a total loss.
