MARION, Ill. — The numbers don't lie and an Illinois agency hopes drivers take them to heart.

The Illinois Department of Transportation reports on average there are more than 7,000 work zone crashes a year in the state with 2,100.

Of that, 27 people will die with two of those being road crew workers.

Local 6 spent the day with highway workers who said the best prevention against causing an accident is staying alert and staying off the cell phone.  Watch the video for more.
