KENTUCKY LAKE — This year, it's not just the Coast Guard reminding everyone about boating safety. the Tennessee Valley Authority is joining in.

TVA is reminding boaters lake levels are at a historic low for this time of the year. The water level is 357.5 feet and TVA expects it to stay that way unless we get significant rain. The summer pool is 359.

Marina owners warn boaters and renters of the shallow waters, saying submerged foundations and road beds, all the things you can't see, are now closer to surface than ever.

Nancy Bright was on the lake with her husband Jim last weekend and unfortunately, the low level took out their prop.

"We were right by the pylon, just a hair off," Nancy Bright said. "Once you hit it, there's no getting out."

Local law enforcement emphasizes the use of life jackets while boating. They add you should have an onboard fire extinguisher, maintain a safe speed, keep a look out and keep the alcohol drinking to a minimum.
