Honeywell Metropolis plant resumes front end operations

METROPOLIS, Ill. - The Honeywell plant in Metropolis, Illinois started front end operations Thursday morning after spending months on safety upgrades.

The operations include ore production and green salt production.

The plant closed in July 2012 after the Nuclear Regulatory Commission found that the plant's process equipment lacked seismic restraints.

Honeywell won't be able to become fully operational until they receive final approval from the NRC. Plant officials say they hope to have that decision sometime next month.
