PADUCAH, Ky. - Just weeks after being acquitted of arson and manslaughter in a deadly 1998 dorm fire at Murray State, Jerry Walker will be back in court today.

Walker now faces six tampering with evidence charges from that fire, stemming from a letter that evidence shows Walker wrote and sent to potential suspects weeks after the fire.

Today the judge will hear a motion from Walker's lawyers to dismiss the tampering charges.

Walker's lawyers say too much time has passed and too much evidence has been lost or destroyed since the fire to move forward, pointing to Walker's acquittal this past July as proof.

Meanwhile, the Paducah Sun reports that Commonwealth Attorney Mark Blankenship has sent a letter to Walker's defense team with an offer on the tampering charges.

Walker's defense team tried to dismiss the charges before his July trial, but judge Dennis Foust denied that motion.

Walker currently serves as assistant principal at Paducah Middle School, and according to Superintendent Randy Green will remain in that role while charges are pending.
