Ky House Speaker co-sponsors LGBT Bill
FRANKFORT, Ky -The Kentucky Speaker of the House, Greg Stumbo has signed on as a co-sponsor to the Fairness Bill.
A statewide fairness rally will be held in support of House Bill 171 which would extend discrimination protections in employment, housing, and public accommodations to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people.
The Rally will be held in the Capitol Rotunda Wednesday, February 19th at 1:30p.m., 700 Capital Avenue, 40601.
A third of the Democratic House Caucus has signed onto the bill.
The Senate Fairness Bill 140 also achieved a record number of co-sponsors when Senate Minority Whip signed onto the measure.
Six Kentucky cities have extended Fairness protections to the LGBT community.
Fairness Campaign director, Chris Hartman says, "it makes sense for leadership to start getting behind this simple anti-discrimination law. Aside from being the right thing to do and having the support from the vast majority of Kentuckians--83% according to a recent poll--it will save our state money in these strapped financial times."
