MARSHALL COUNTY, Ky. - A judge sentenced former middle school principal Kent Barlow to 10 years in prison today for an attack against his then-girlfriend.

Barlow pleaded guilty to wanton endangerment, unlawful imprisonment and assault after an incident at his home last March.

"I'd like to...offer my apologies to the victim and to her family," Barlow said at his sentencing hearing. "I've searched for words to describe the remorse and sorrow I feel for her and her family. She's been my best friend and I have a great deal of love and respect for her."

Barlow is also required to pay restitution of more than $8,000. He must start making those payments 30 days after he is released from jail.

MARSHALL COUNTY, Ky. - A former middle school principal is scheduled to be sentenced today for an attack against his then-girlfriend.

Kent Barlow pleaded guilty earlier this month to wanton endangerment, unlawful imprisonment and assault charges.

Those charges stem from an incident in March, where police say he attacked and then held the woman against her will.

At the time of his arrest, Barlow was the principal of South Marshall Middle School in Marshall County.

He could face up to 10 years in jail, but Barlow's lawyer says they plan on asking the judge today for probation.

Barlow says he plans to attend an aggressive outpatient counseling following his release.
