Kentucky Medicaid program recovers $7M in drug case

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - The Kentucky Medicaid program has recovered $7 million in a settlement with Johnson & Johnson pharmaceutical companies over prices charged for their drugs.
   
Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway's office says lawsuits alleged that Johnson & Johnson published inflated average wholesale prices for their drugs. In a statement, Conway's office said the Medicaid program relied on the published amounts to calculate reimbursement rates, resulting in millions of dollars more being paid for reimbursements than should have been.
   
Conway's office says in the past 4 1/2 years, the Office of Medicaid Fraud and Abuse Control has recovered or been awarded more than $230 million for state and federal Medicaid programs.
