LATA suspends pending layoffs

PADUCAH, Ky. - New details on the subcontracting company in charge of cleaning up the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant.

Leaders at LATA have suspended the layoff planned for June 3.  About 260 LATA employees received a notice of future layoffs due to budget cuts in early May.

Congress approved the Department of Energy's proposal to shuffle funds, possibly saving those jobs.  Now, LATA waits to hear from the D.O.E. on their employees' statuses.

LATA Kentucky project manager Mark Duff sent out a statement reading in part, "We remain optimistic of receiving enough funding to continue our planned work for the rest of Fiscal Year 13, which would result in delaying layoffs into Fiscal Year 14."

Local 6 reached out to the D.O.E.

A spokesperson says once a decision is reached, they will send LATA recommendations.
