PADUCAH, Ky. - Fire up the grill or go to your favorite restaurant, because it's National Cheeseburger Day!

There are several theories about the origin of the cheeseburger. The earliest comes from a 16-year-old fry cook named Lionel Sternberger, who said a homeless man dining at his dad's restaurant in Pasadena, California suggested the addition of cheese.

Another theory comes from Kentucky, as Kaelin's Restaurant in Louisville claims to have invented the cheeseburger in 1934.

Regardless of where the cheeseburger originated, countless variations of the popular item have come and gone for generations.

Local 6's Mike Mallory visited The Station Burger Co. in Paducah to see how they're celebrating National Cheeseburger Day. Check out the video for more.
