CARBONDALE, Ill. - Leaders at Southern Illinois University say guns are still not allowed on campus, even with the new concealed carry law.

The university issued a reminder that carrying or storing firearms is not allowed on school property.

Students can bring a firearm if they take it to campus police to be stored.

The new Illinois law allowing gun owners to carry a concealed firearm is not in affect yet.

Once the law is implemented, concealed carry will still be illegal at any school, college, or university in the state.
