PADUCAH, Ky. - An alleged early morning assault on an infant has landed a western Kentucky man in jail.

It happened in McCracken County, Kentucky on Wednesday.  Kentucky State Police say 27-year-old Travis McKinzie faces 1st degree assault and domestic violence charges as a result.

At 3 a.m., troopers received a call about a baby with some serious physical injuries.  Investigators went to Baptist Health Paducah to check it out.  A short time later, the seriousness of the baby's injuries forced pilots to fly the baby to Kosair Children's Hospital.

There's been no word on the infant's condition.

Troopers later arrested and charged McKinzie.  After his arrest, they took him to the McCracken County Regional Jail.
