Man arrested on 1st Degree Assault after stabbing

CADIZ, Ky. - An 18 year-old was stabbed in the abdomen during an altercation around 130a.m. on Saturday, according to Cadiz Police. 

Trigg County Hospital reported the stabbing victim, Gary Barker Jr., came to the emergency room after an incident on Martindale Street.  
 
Officers questioned witnesses who said Deonte T. Byers was the person who stabbed Barker.  Barker told police he was trying to break up a fight when he was stabbed.  
 
Officers located Byers at his home.  Family members told police Byers had stabbed Barker in self-defense.  Byers had injuries to his face and hand consistent with being in a recent fight.  
 
Byers was questioned at the Cadiz Police Department and arrested on a charge of First-Degree Assault.
