Police probe unusual murder case
PADUCAH — A grieving mother speaks out about the murder of her 25-year-old son and the bizarre cover-up attempt by his alleged killer.
Police said 36-year-old Michael Russian killed Adam Bullock early Friday morning in a Paducah apartment.
But that was just the beginning.
Russian was taken into custody Sunday morning while investigators say he was pushing the victim in a shopping cart trying to dispose of the body.
Police said it was a disturbing plan unlike any they've ever seen.
It might have worked if it had not been for some eyewitnesses who spotted the suspect and the loaded cart.
Police say the two were fighting over a woman. Bullock's mom said her son and Russian didn't know each other before Friday but the woman was a mutual friend.
Family members said they don't care what started the fight. The father of two didn't deserve to die they said, especially not this way.
"Now I have to have a closed casket funeral for my son," said Penny Stewart, Bullock's mom. "I cannot kiss him on the cheek tell him goodbye, I love you, anything, because of this man."
The 25-year-old father of two and his fiancee just bought a house and planned to raise their two sons there, but those plans came to a screeching halt Friday.
"Now those boys are going to grow up without him," Stewart said.
Police said a fight broke out early Friday morning in Russian's apartment, in Anderson Court, they said after the fight, Russian hid Bullock's body in this storage shed, and left him there for two days, what he did after that surprises investigators even more.
"The calls we received stated they had witnessed a man pushing a shopping cart with what appeared to have a body inside of it," Paducah Police Det. Sergeant Brian Laird said.
When police arrived, they found Bullock wrapped in a rug and crammed into a shopping cart, along with other items. Investigators believe Russian planned to take Bullock's beyond the floodwall and dump him into the woods or river.
The autopsy revealed Bullock suffered blunt force trauma and he was strangled, but police are not saying that's the cause of death. The altercation occurred inside the apartment but Bullock was stored in a storage until for nearly two days.
The grieving mother said she hopes her son didn't die alone in the hot storage unit.
"He may not have been dead when he put him in that building. I don't know," Stewart said.
Now that Bullock is dead, family members said they're not sure how they'll go on.
"One day it will break me and I haven't broke yet," Stewart said. "It will break me probably the day I lay him in the ground."
Local 6 spoke with Bullock's fiancee. She's taking her two children to Madisonville, where they'll live with her.
Local 6 also reached out to Russian at the McCracken County Jail. He declined an interview.
