Man shot and killed by KY State Trooper, investigation underway

GRAVES COUNTY, Ky. - Kentucky State Police is investigating a deadly shooting that involves a KSP Trooper.

According to investigators, KSP received a 911 call from a home on Beech Grove Road in the Farmington area of Graves County around 4:30p.m. Saturday.

The caller told the dispatcher a fight was in progress near the home, involved firearms and that shots had been fired.

Kentucky State Police and Graves County Sheriff's Deputies responded to the scene.

As a KSP Trooper walked towards the area where the incident had taken place, a man armed with a handgun appeared. As the man approached, he raised the handgun at the KSP Trooper. The Trooper, armed with his patrol rifle, fired at the armed man striking and killing him.

The man who died has been identified as 49 year-old Ted Newsome of Farmington.

Officers at the scene were not physically injured.

Kentucky State Police investigators and the Graves County Coroner are currently on scene conducting the investigation.
