Police charge two in Marion, Ill. thefts

MARION, Ill. -

UPDATE: Johnny Layne and Joshua Connors were taken into custody and jailed in Franklin County on December 26th, relative to charges that resulted from the below reported incident.

The Marion Police Department is asking the public’s assistance in identifying two white male suspects in connection with a theft on the southeast side of Marion on Friday, Nov. 25.

An elderly victim had contact with these suspects when they approached his residence and offered to trim tree limbs in his yard in exchange for payment.  When the suspects later left the victim’s residence, he discovered his wallet and credit card were missing.  Suspects attempted to use the stolen credit card at gas stations in Marion and a hardware store in Energy, Ill.

The first suspect is described as 6' - 6'03'', 275 lbs, in his mid 40's, wearing a brown Carhart coat, sock hat, and glasses.

The second suspect is described as under 5', 130 lbs, mid 30's, wearing white painter pants, and a light colored t-shirt.

The suspects were seen occupying a two-toned white and blue early 80’s model pickup truck (possibly a Ford F150).  The bed of the truck contained tree limbs, a ladder, and chainsaws. Based on the original report, the gas station surveillance, and victim/witness descriptions, it appears that the suspects may have changed/switched clothing in an effort to complicate identification.

If anyone has any information on the identity of these suspects, or makes contact with subjects similar in description, please contact the Marion Police Department's Investigations Division at (618)993-2124.
