Marion, Illinois prison inmate arraigned on escape charges
MARION , Ill. - An inmate serving time at the Federal Prison Camp in Marion, Illinois, was arraigned on escape charges.
The charges stem from an incident on March 26 in Jefferson County, when 55-year-old David John Pederson carjacked two women just hours after leaving the penitentiary on his way to a halfway house in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Pederson pleaded guilty to forcing his way into two separate vehicles in Mount Vernon armed with a pellet gun.
U.S. Attorney Stephen Wigginton says if Pederson is convicted, he faces an additional five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
Wigginton says Pederson is being held without bond and has been returned to the Illinois Department of Corrections.
