Sheriff's department launches death investigation

AURORA, Ky. — The Marshall County Sheriff's Department is investigating the Wednesday night death of a Benton man in Aurora, Kentucky.

Deputies responded to a disturbance call around 9 p.m. in the 1100 block of Union Ridge Road . When they arrived, they found 39-year-old Joseph Baier Jr. dead.

A Marshall County deputy said the property belongs to Jimmy Lynn Filbeck, age 51, of Benton. According to police, Baier had been on the property and the two men got into a fight. Investigators are working with the Marshall County Coroner to determine how Baier died, but they they don't think any weapons were involved.

Once the results come back, the matter will be presented to the Grand Jury and Filbeck could face charges.

According to family, Baier is a father of four who does maintenance work for Murray State University.
