PADUCAH, Ky.— On August 10, 2012, detectives with the McCracken County Sheriff's Department Drug Division received an anonymous tip that James Sears Jr. was attempting to make methamphetamine. Detectives located Sears and began an investigation.

During the course of the investigation, detectives learned that Sears had purchased Sudafed at a local pharmacy. Detectives then observed him drive to a local hardware store where a detective watched him buy Lithium batteries, a component to the manufacturing of methamphetamine. Sears then went to another local store where a detective observed him looking at drain cleaner which is another meth component.

Detectives conducted a traffic stop of the vehicle Sears was driving as he neared his residence on Brown Street in Paducah, KY. A search of the truck was conducted where detectives located the Lithium batteries he had purchased as well as a quantity of Sudafed.

A search was then conducted of Sears' residence with the assistance of the Paducah Police Department. Inside the residence, detectives discovered more meth manufacturing items, a quantity of methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and a small quantity of marijuana.

Sears is currently on Parole for a prior Manufacturing Methamphetamine charge and was charged on Friday with Manufacturing Methamphetamine 2nd Offense. He was lodged in the McCracken County Regional Jail.
