McCracken County Sheriff's Deputy back to work after shooting

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, Ky. - Sheriff Jon Hayden says Sgt. Jared Rivera is back to work after going through various tests and counseling.

Rivera was the first deputy on scene for a welfare check of a reportedly suicidal man back on October 6th.

According to investigators, a man came out of a home waving a sword and wielding a handgun towards Rivera's car when Rivera shot him.

Hayden said that the man remains in critical condition in a local hospital.
