Over $400,000,000 made at the box office and 36,500,000 books sold, It's obvious people have mustered up quite an appetite for the "Hunger Games."

The strong female lead, Katniss Everdeen, has become a hero in her fans eyes. It's sparked locals to mirror some aspects of her life... archery.

Katniss isn't the only archer in pop culture...There's also Hawkeye from the Avengers, the Green Arrow, a new show on the CW, and Robin Hood from classic stories.

Katniss is the only female archer and is one big reason  more females are trying their hand at archery. The timing of archery is on the rise is also interesting because the Summer Olympics on the horizon.

USA Archery says it has seen a 166% increase in Facebook fans this year alone, along with a rise in Twitter followers and website hits. They admit, much of it has to do with the Hunger Games film.

"It's a sport where you don't have to be the biggest or the fastest or the strongest to get good at it," says Chance Clanahan.

Katniss used a recurve bow... The same kind used in the Olympics.

"With a bow like katniss used, there's no sights, you're shooting instinctively. It's more like throwing a baseball," Clanahan says.

The movie has this centuries old weapon flying off the shelves at Paducah Shooter's Supply.

" I usually sell 2 or 3 high end recurves a year and I am sold out now," says Clanahan.

Marissa, Mike, and Johnette had to see what all of the hype was about.

So let the games begin!
